Once again Virgin Balloon Flights have sponsored the annual Wray Scarecrow Festival and fair in north Lancashire providing a star prize of a balloon flight for two!
On behalf of the Wray Scarecrow Festival & Fair Committee, Ian Simpson said “2011 was an extraordinary year for the Festival! The weather played ball (except for the wind which blew the roof off the tea tent!), we had four Bank Holidays, a Royal Wedding, a world first (live broadcast on the internet of a village cricket match), there were loads of visitors and a lot of fun was had by a lot of people.”
“Of course, there is a serious side to all the fun and happily we raised over £15,000 for the Village Institute. This is a great achievement and will make a major contribution towards the running, maintenance and repair costs of this important facility which is at the heart of so many village activities. In addition to the funds raised for the Institute, we estimate that other local groups (e.g. the school) raised something in the region of a further £11,000 which will all benefit the community in different ways,” added Ian.
This year’s winners were the Bobbin Mill Group with their fantastic ‘Royal Wedding’ scene complete with a balcony kiss alongside HRH Prince Harry and even angels in the form of Princess Diana and The Queen Mother watching on.
