One pretty street in Kirkby Lonsdale is named Salt Pie Lane, after a lady living there in the early 1900s baked and sold hot salted mutton pies to traders at the adjacent horse market. It’s been said many who enjoyed the tasty treats ended up at the nearby Green Dragon pub (now The Snooty Fox) to quench their thirst afterwards – the landlord of which just happened to be a relation of the enterprising pie maker
