About
One of our Norfolk back-up launch sites, your flight may be moved here on the day.
A hot air balloon ride over Norwich is a spectacular way to see this stunning part of England from the majestic perspective of one of the oldest forms of aviation. From Mattishall, near to Dereham, you’ll have beautiful views of the ‘fine city’ of Norwich to the east. Norwich is steeped in history with a complementary mix of ancient and modern architecture. From the splendid 11th century Norwich Castle, medieval churches and a magnificent Norman cathedral to the modernity of the Forum; the landmark Millenium building and striking illustration of 20th century architecture.
Once airborne cast your eyes eastwards for views of the Norfolk Broads’ 303km series of rivers and lakes, dubbed ‘Britain’s Magical Waterways’. Look out for thatched cottages and winding waterways. Rich in wildlife this is a wonderful and inspiring place to explore.
If your balloon drifts north east, the fine Jacobean country house on the National Trust’s Blickling Estate might come into view, whilst looking north west it is possible to see the Wash and the north Norfolk coastline. If you fly westerly you might spot Ely Cathedral whilst south there’s tranquil Thetford Forest; a patchwork of pines, heathland and broadleaves. Castle Acre with its 11th century priory and 13th century castle along with National Trust property Oxborough Hall might also drift serenely beneath your balloon basket.
Norfolk spans more than two thousand square miles and encompasses great geographic diversity, a perfect reason to take to the skies in a beautiful big red balloon.
