Fun & Interesting Facts
When Shelsley Walsh Speed Hill Climb first opened in 1905, it wasn’t actually how fast cars travelled up the track that was recorded. Up until 1913, cars had to have four seats, with full trim and raced up the hill with a full load of passengers. Winners were decided by multiplying the cars track time in seconds by its horsepower, then divided by the total weight of the fully laden car. Some cars wouldn’t even make it up the hill at all.
