Scotland booking dates for Spring 2022 will be released from October this year and throughout the winter months up to the start of our 2022 flying season.

Our customer service team is available 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and will be more than happy to extend any flight vouchers as needed to ensure you have plenty of time to book with us our 2022 flying season, which begins in April.

Virgin Balloon Flights

Update: 14th July 2021

Over the past 18 months, Virgin Balloon Flights has faced unprecedented challenges for our balloon rides in Scotland.

While our flights have been permitted in England and Wales since May this year, the continued uncertainty around Covid-19 restrictions and the regional levels system in Scotland made scheduling flights there unworkable.

With more than half of our flying season in Scotland having already passed, we have had to make the difficult decision to suspend ballooning in the country until 2022.

The main reasons for this are:

There was no guarantee all of Scotland would move to Level 0 on 19^th July, making it impossible for us to schedule flights in advance with any certainty for the remainder of our flying season
No agreement from the Scottish Government that the Level 0 limit of 15 people meeting outdoors will not include our crew or any additional ‘spectators’ who may come with passengers to watch the take-off
Continued uncertainty for our passengers and an unfair, ongoing risk of us having to cancel flights again should restrictions not change
No firm guidance until mid-July on any expected ending of all restrictions (below Level 0) that would allow us to fly with more than 15 people in attendance
When restrictions on legal limits and social distancing do end on 9th August 2021, this is too late in our flying season for us to be able to operate a workable balloon flight schedule in Scotland. With Scotland's flying season ending in early to mid-September, to only fly our balloons for 4-6 weeks of its usual 5-6 month season isn't operational viable for us.

We can’t express how disappointed we are at being unable to fly in Scotland this year. We have looked forward to going up, up and away again over those gorgeous landscapes ever since we were first grounded in 2020.
